FLAG DAY FREEDOM RALLY
NO KINGS!
A CALL TO ACTION: SATURDAY JUNE 14th
WE ARE ON, RAIN OR SHINE!
In Newtown, CT, on Saturday, June 14th, join hundreds of fellow citizens at the iconic Main Street Flagpole from 2 to 3 pm on FLAG DAY to protest the corrupt, incompetent administration of
Donald J. Trump, who styles himself a king above the law. Along both sides of Main Street we will raise our voices in defense of the ideals embodied in the red, white, and blue: freedom, democracy and the rule of law!
Bring your signs, your voices,  and your determination as we line the street keeping to the sidewalks and the public grass areas only.

We aim to let traffic flow as freely as possible so that your signs can be seen. Speakers and music will be centered on the sidewalk across the street from Newtown Meeting House but a few steps SOUTH of Trinity Church. Please keep to public areas and avoid sitting on church steps. Scroll down or click here for safety guidelines and parking tips.

In America, we don’t put up with would-be kings. NO KINGS is a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.

On Saturday, June 14, we’re taking to the streets nationwide.

The flag doesn’t belong to Donald Trump. It belongs to us. We’re not watching history happen. We’re making it.

On June 14th, we’re showing up everywhere he isn’t—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings. Check out nokings.org for more information.

A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

Rock This Democracy is a grassroots volunteer organization creating and supporting gatherings of all sizes  to defend democracy and reject authoritarianism and oligarchy.

There is a path beyond projection and echo chambers.

As we illuminate that path for all ages, all races and creeds, all orientations, all families and people,  we mobilize to further the defense of liberty and justice and for all.

Safety Guidelines and Parking Tips

On June14th please keep to the public sidewalk areas and grass between sidewalks and street only. Please keep off the front lawns of houses on Main Street and please: for your safety, keep off the street entirely. Thank you!

Please minimize any crossing of the street. If you do need to cross use crosswalk only. Our goal is keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible.

Whatever corner or side you approach from your parking location try to keep to that side/corner if possible, so that we may avoid having scores of people crossing unnecessarily. If you are walking up either side of Church Hill to reach the event certainly come ALL the way up to Main and then fan out to whatever side you are already on. There is a lot of room to spread a hundred yards either way on Main and still be able to see and hear.

This busy four way intersection is already prone to accidents. Please avoid distracting drivers: Please do not interact with drivers other than friendly waving and cheering in response to their positive expressions if you wish.
Do NOT use any negative gestures or negative shouting.

NOTEYou may wish to wear a hat for sun protection, and/or bring an umbrella if potential rain. See also below regarding weather.

PARKING: RTD cannot officially authorize or endorse any particular parking location. However, one can find many options near the center of town. Drivers may consider the large lot behind Newtown Savings Bank or Edmond Town Hall, Queen Street Shopping Center, the library, the area behind the old police station at 3 Main Street, Middle School on Queen Street, and even along Main Street itself. Out of respect for local churches which may have events that day we ask that you try to avoid parking at nearby churches, unless you are a member of that church.

WEATHER: This event is rain or shine. However, if thunderstorms are forecast to be moving through the area with lightning etc there is the possibility of our needing to cancel for safety reasons. If that occurs there will be notice posted here and on Facebook by 1 pm on the day of the rally. If you see no such announcement by 1 pm on Saturday it means there is no cancellation and the event is "on."

The rally begins at 2 pm and ends promptly at 3. Please leave yourself time to park and walk. Thank you!
